‘My work begins with observation—often through still life, though subject is not the driving factor—from which evolve poetic explorations of atmosphere, memory, and belonging. Influenced by my mixed cultural heritage, I have come to understand that I seek a sense of grounding both in the act of painting and through use of colour and composition. Although my work appears figural, I am by no means confined to what I see, but rather like to allow the emergence of what the paint and my hand finds. The emphasis lies on evoking a feeling rather than documenting a moment’
